Country-level data to help address inequities across the lifespan
This data map visualises publicly available country-level data for selected indicators for each stage of education, covering the period from 2000 to 2023 (where data is available).
Not all indicators in the framework have been included. The indicators presented have been selected as they are comparable across countries and time, and can be disaggregated.
For each indicator, data trends can be viewed by category: at the national level, by gender, location and socio-economic status. Gender is sub-categorised as Female and Male. Location is sub-categorised into urban and rural where they often defined by each country and can vary by data source. Socioeconomic Status (SES) is based on information about household wealth. Individuals are categorised into 5 groups, ranging from the poorest to the wealthiest in each country. Low SES refers to the poorest (1st quintile), and high SES the wealthiest (5th quintile).
Clicking on each circle hides or displays the data trend for the category of interest. Greyed out categories mean the data is not available. Clicking on each data point displays the definition of each indicator, and its data source. Hovering on the data point shows the percentage value.
This data map can be filtered by country and indicator.

This analysis enables a nuanced comparison of changes in outcomes over time – both across countries and among different groups within countries – highlighting not only progress but also areas of decline.
It draws attention to persistent and emerging inequalities, revealing how factors such as gender, wealth and geographic location shape individuals’ access to education and life opportunities. National-level data can obscure disparities and the exclusion of the most marginalised populations.
By focusing on equity, the selected data sources, primarily household surveys, offer valuable insights.
